Sailing
Meals: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner
In the morning we’ll have a hearty breakfast and then go over our itinerary for the week. After some interesting education and 4 more units completed as a group from the comfort of the couches in the living room, we will head off for an exciting morning of sailing. At the Sailing Regatta we’ll have the opportunity to learn to sail, and for those not interested in learning, enjoy a leisurely sail boat ride on a 30’ yacht. You very well may even see some spinner dolphins!
The costs of this service (included) will help support the local sailing program for Hawaiian children. After sailing, we will get any last minute shopping in, then head back to the villas to freshen up for our “Welcome to Hawaii BBQ!”, featuring local beef and fresh caught Tuna. (vegitarian options available too). Post dinner, we will have a brief 2 unit course and online testing, then to bed or evening conversations over a tropical drink.
Hike & Harvest
Meals: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner
Today is going to be special. After a hearty breakfast and 3 units of group CE classes, we’ll head off to North Kohala to visit a nonprofit, bio-diverse, sustainable farm. During the ride there, you will bring your worksheet and your smartphone for our podcast program, and we will complete another easy 1 unit. Once we arrive, we will learn about farming practices that have the potential to literally save the earth while harvesting some amazing organic vegetables. After putting in a little time in garden, we will enjoy a locally sourced meal prepared with love from the volunteers at the farm. We will then take a short hike through this private reserve, witnessing a variety of flora and fauna. After this enriching experience we’ll head to a scenic lookout and beach that is truly incredible: Pololu Valley is a great place for stunning photography. As the day comes to an end we’ll polish off another 1 unit audio course on the drive back, arriving home just in time for a delicious dinner. For those who took a nap on the ride home there will be time to complete the course after dinner if needed.

Turtle Sanctuary
Meals: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner
After breakfast and a quick 2 unit group course, we’re off to Kiholo Bay this morning to explore this magical secluded lagoon filled with sea turtles. To get to the bay we will hike 1 mile along lava rocks and across a black sand beach. From here we will do a water safari 250 ft across the lagoon to the island filled with sea turtles. We can eat our lunch, relax, and snorkel with the turtles all afternoon. The lagoon area is also perfect for exploring by foot. Amazing photography opportunities here! At the end of the day, we will head back to the villas for a nap. Another interactive course and 4 more units checked off the list tonight! Amazing food will await us as we enjoy another spectacular sunset.
Magical Waipio
Meals: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner
Today is an epic day! The morning begins with an interactive 3 unit course. Next, we will pack our smartphones and workbook with an on the go lesson (1 unit), as we travel to arguably the most beautiful place in all of Hawaii: Waipio Valley. Before we make it to this stunning valley, cut into the tropical Kohala Coast, we’ll stop in Honokaa. This quaint town has some wonderful art stores, antiques, and is a must stop on any Hawaii itinerary. Upon arrival at Waipio, we’ll take some awesome pictures, enjoy a hot, freshly prepared local style lunch and then embark down the windy road to the valley floor. From here the group can split up and will have the option of a short flat walk to the most beautiful black sand beach in all of Hawaii OR further into the lush, tropical valley. Enjoy another 2 unit course on the way back. Another tasty dinner awaits back in Kona for us.
Optional Tour: Get a full tour of the Valley with a local guide in an opened windowed 4×4 Van. He will tell you the lore of this ancient valley, feed you the in-season edible fruits and flowers in this valley, and take you deep into this magical land, driving through rivers and by tarot fields. It also offers the advantage of a ride down the very steep hill if your knees are not good or you prefer to limit the strain: $87 per person
Into the Crater!
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
After a fresh island breakfast we’ll make our packed lunches for the day from a sandwich bar that will be waiting for us, and head on our way to Volcano National park. On the way, you will have time to complete a one-unit podcast course. We’ll visit the Sweet Bread Bakery for a sampling of this delicious Big Island specialty. From here we go to one of the Big Island’s famous black sand beaches, known as Turtle Beach. The name says it all. We almost always see some beautiful sea turtles resting by the tides. Our next stop is Volcano National Park for a tasty picnic before embarking on the coolest hike in Hawaii. We’ll start on a short walk through the Thurston Lava Tube. This famous, very large lava cave formed when underground lava flows through the earth and into the ocean. After our warm-up lava tube walk, we’ll head on to the crater hike. This is an awesome 4-mile moderate trek down through a tropical jungle and across a massive volcanic crater. Great views and awesome picture ops throughout this dormant crater floor full of steam vents and lava bridges! If we have enough time on the hike we will top the day off in warm thermal pools overlooking the ocean! Dinner will be at a local restaurant on the way back to our villas.
Tropical Beaches & Top of the World
Meals: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner
A trip to the Big Island isn’t complete without a one of kind beach hopping day. After our last 2 hour group course and 1 more hour for open study for those who might have missed a unit along the way, we’ll take you to the most famous & hidden beaches in Waikoloa, the warmest and sunniest area on the whole island. Fine, white sand beaches and awesome snorkeling await. In the afternoon, we’ll head on to Hawaii’s largest volcano to see the sunset. Mauna Kea is 14,000 feet tall and anyone who has seen the sunset here will tell you it’s an absolute must when coming to the Big Island. After lounging in 85 degree weather all day we may even get to see snow at the top of the volcano! The temperature at the top can range from 25-40 degrees Fahrenheit! Don’t forget your camera’s as you will certainly get some keepers up here. After the sun goes down we’ll do a little stargazing at the Mauna Kea Visitors Center before heading back to our accommodations for a delicious dinner.

"I had a great time this past week and want to thank you for all the work you and Jud and Joe did in planning the adventure. Your willingness to change plans and be so accommodating made the trip extra special for me. And of course, the humor. What can I say? I felt like we were all part of a close family. I have told several people about Destination Earth and hope they will contact you. Thanks again, Kathy"

"I have had the great pleasure of participating in two tours with Destination Earth. One was on the Big Island and one was on Kauai. Both tours were beyond amazing. The leaders Steve and Jud were experienced, professional, organized and great fun to be with. The accommodations were great and perfectly situated. The chef prepared local cuisine and was amenable to personal preferences. Overall, both experiences were wonderful. I felt safe at all times and appreciated the camaraderie and flexibility of the guides."
